COMPETITION RULES

  • Teams

A qualifying team can consist of one, to no more than a total of four members. Any guest beyond the registered team must purchase a “Taster’s Ticket” to enter the event.

  • Competition Space

Each team, at random, will be assigned a 12’ x 12’ space to compete in. There is no guarantee that anyone who sponsors 2 or more teams will be located next to one another.

  • Canopies

Each team is allowed to position a 12' x 12' (or smaller) canopy over their competition space. It is recommended to secure the canopy with leg weights, to help mitigate stability issues, related to less than perfect weather.

  • Cooking Devices

Each team must bring and position, within their competitive space, NO more than a total of TWO of the following cooking devices*, in any combination...

 

*Charcoal/Wood Fired Grills or Smokers

After the initial lighting of these cooking device(s), the use of liquid or gas fuels of any kind, to maintain cooking temperatures, are PROHIBITED! The use of battery-operated temperature gauges and light air supply devices, to maintain cooking temperatures, are permitted.

 

*New for 2025! Pellet/Gravity Fed Grills or Smokers**

Teams are permitted to use a pre-charged battery bank to operate grills or smokers, that require electric power. Standard electricity will NOT be available at the event site.

**Cooking Device SAFETY!

Due to safety concerns, liquid or gas fueled generators and/or solar panels, needed to charge/maintain the battery bank(s) or directly operate cooking devices, of any kind, are PROHIBITED! Any extension cord that is used, must be positioned within the boundaries of each team’s competitive space.

 

  • Judging

A panel of judges will choose the winning team for each of the 3 rounds. Each guest who purchased a “Taster’s Ticket” will get one vote to award a "People's Choice" for best food and overall team spirit.

These will be provided to each team via email prior to the event.
